Coogamooga

Date: April 4, 2009
Location: Springfield, SC
Big Coogamooga: 9 am
Little Coogamooga: 9:30 am |
First we need to address the question of what is “Coogamooga?” Well, coogamooga is not that easily defined, but as best I can put it coogamooga is “coolness,” with maybe a hint of “groovy” thrown in for good measure. For instance, Steve Prefontaine=good coogamooga, a blissful 40 miles of racing=good coogamooga, my uncle Greggyboy really good coogamooga. Start to get the picture? We’ll explore it further at the race.
The Coogamooga Challenge will consist of two races: The Big Coogamooga and the Little Coogamooga, a shortened version of the Winter Challenge; let’s say “a frog’s jump” of the Winter Challenge. So consult your slow twitch and your fast twitch muscle fibers and agree on which one is for you.
Course and Order of Events
The course and order of events will be the same as for the Winter Challenge, only after finishing the first circuit, athletes will leave their bikes in the transition and start the fun all over again. It will not be a complete “double” as the second circuit will be shortened by approximately two miles per discipline. This represents Big Coogamooga. 40 miles of pure racing joy.
Little Coogamooga will be a speedfest or as some folks in neighboring Springfield might call it, a “frog’s jump.” It will consist of a 5 mile run, a 4 mile paddle, and a 7 mile mountain bike.
Both races will qualify participants for Series Standings. This year there will be two categories.
Relay Teams: The format for relay teams will be the same as at the Winter Challenge.
Categories and Awards
At the Coogamooga Challenge there will be prizes of only the best and most groovy kind. They will be awarded in a fashion commensurate with the size of the field! There will be fabulous T-shirts for all participants, and yet another skull and bones T-shirt for series qualifiers.
